My video ‘Sounds from darkling beetles’ got an outdoor screening on 14 June as part of the Fort Road Film Festival in Margate.
Kymmata
Last week I showed my video/sound work ‘Crow Sea’ at Kymmata, in the O3 Gallery, Oxford. It was a great week of installations, performances and meeting up with old friends. The ‘Crow Sea’ video is now on Vimeo, and the soundtrack is on SoundCloud.
Whitstable Festival
It was a great experience taking part in Stéphane Troiscarré’s layered performance/video/installation on Whitstable beach on a beautiful warm June evening as part of the Whitstable Festival. I met and performed with some wonderful people.
Drawing with Sound
On 7 May 2014 I ran a workshop at Resort Studios, Margate. The intention was to explore the connections between drawing and sound. Participants played with Drawdios – pencils with soundmaking electronics attached. A glass table was miked up to guitar effects and looper, and participants contributed to this audio piece by the sounds they ‘drew’ on paper. They were encouraged to play various instruments and soundmakers and respond to the sounds by making drawings. Finally they composed and performed graphic scores. Most of the people who turned up were new to all of this, and it succeeded well beyond my wildest expectations. Thank you everyone!
